The U.S. Embassy commends the citizens of North Macedonia who exercised their right to vote in the 2019 presidential elections. We congratulate Stevo Pendarovski on his election and look forward to working with him, the government, and all political parties to advance North Macedonia’s future in NATO and the EU.
We welcome OSCE/ODIHR’s preliminary conclusions that the elections were competitive and that respect for fundamental freedoms contributed towards a democratic process. These findings are consistent with those of the U.S. Embassy teams who observed both the first and second rounds of elections. If there are concerns about irregularities, we encourage citizens, civil society, and media, regardless of political affiliation, to report them promptly to the appropriate authorities.
