Earthquake Alert – U.S. Embassy Skopje, North Macedonia (November 11, 2020)
Location: Gostivar, North Macedonia
Event: The U.S. Embassy in Skopje received initial reports of a 5.0 magnitude earthquake which occurred at 4:54 A.M. on November 11, 2020, near the town of Vrutok, located 17 kilometers southwest of Gostivar, near Mavrovo. It was a moderate magnitude quake at 10 km depth. The quake was primarily felt throughout Albania and North Macedonia, but it also reached parts of Bulgaria, Greece, Kosovo, Montenegro, and Serbia. While an earthquake of this moderate magnitude has the potential to inflict moderate to heavy damage to buildings and other infrastructure, media is reporting no material damage and no casualties. Authorities may revise this information upon further review.
Expect aftershocks hours, days, or weeks after the main quake. Use caution as aftershocks can cause building damage and falling debris.
